Journal / SXSW Music and Muxtape

Since arriving home from SXSW, lots of people have been asking, “What were the best bands you saw in Texas?” No one seems to understand or care that I was also at the Interactive Conference. So today I went through the list I kept of all the bands I saw when I was there, and started to pick out the best ones, with the intention of making a mix for my friends.

And since there has been a lot of hype and argument this week about Muxtape, I thought I would use that service for the mix. Muxtape is a really simple service that allows users to create a 12 song digital mixtape, which is public, and allows anyone to stream the songs you have uploaded. There has been more than a little discussion on who is paying for the bandwidth, and who, if anyone, is legally in the sh*t.

Since the limit for a Muxtape is 12 songs, I have created 2, as I had real trouble picking just 12 bands. So without further ado, or any dull commentary from me trying to be a music hack, here are my picks from SXSW 2008:

Best of SXSW 08 Pt. 1

Best of SXSW 08 Pt. 2

I hope you like some of it, and I’d love to hear about your Muxtapes.

I dig the Muxtape simple layout.

Wish you could just press play and let it all happen – seems like the player isn’t very robust. But I just started. Can’t wait to get through your tunes.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Joe, I agree that it would be nice if you could press play and it would play all tracks in order. However, I did feel that this solution was the simplest since I didn’t have huge amounts of time to put it together.

Didn’t know you could tweak it like that. Love your selects. Been playing them a couple times.
